Health System Emergency Physicians

Health System Emergency Physicians was formed in 1995 after the merger of the emergency physician's groups of Iowa Methodist and Iowa Lutheran. Dr. Baker is the President of HSEP and Medical Director of the ED's at the 3 hospitals of the Iowa Health System in Des Moines at Methodist, Lutheran, and Methodist West.

Dr. Baker was educated in Iowa, receiving his undergraduate education at the University of Iowa and his medical degree from Des Moines University. He completed a Family Medicine Residency at Iowa Lutheran Hospital, but discovered a passion for emergency medicine early in his career. He is board certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine and a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians.

Dr. Baker is a member of the Board of Trustees of Iowa Health Des Moines, the Iowa Health Foundation, and is Chair-elect of the Board of Trustees of Des Moines University. He is a Director of Emergency Medicine Risk Retention Group, and is Chair of the group's Committee for Risk and Safety. In his spare time he enjoys time with his wife, Lori, and their 4 grown children. He is a private pilot and enjoys golf.
